Issue #40

A$14.95

Roaring into Issue 40 is ‘Rory the Lion.’ Holden dealer Ron Hodgson wanted to make his already hot new “Performance Equipment Package” really stand out and so had his rare A9X hatchback decorated with ‘Rory the Lion’ – Hodgson’s friendly mascot. Rory was a real hit and has survived for all to see, read all about it here.

Something more low key, but still beautiful to look at, we have a Ford XT Fairmont V8, which has been a country car all its life.

For the Mopar fans, we have a rare example, one of just 139 built, Valiant ‘Stirling Moss Special’ hardtop. This baby was bought by a hard working country barber who decided to treat himself late in his life.

Next up is an exquisitely fine, and super rare 1969 Mazda 1500 SS that had been with the same owner for 50 years!

Our Future Survivor segment features a Bionic BA XR8 Ford in beautiful condition that started its life as a Ford Australia company car, which explains its great range of options. It was looked after so well, that when its current owner purchased it, she realized that it was too nice to be used as a daily driver.

From the International Survivor stable we have a 1977 Pontiac Trans Am Special Edition (Y82 + W72 Performance Package) that is virtually brand new! Colloquially known as the ‘Black and Gold’ bandit because it featured in the movie Smokey and the Bandit, this magnificent example has just 2,204 miles on the odometer.

For a bit of nostalgia, turn to our Holden Dealership special feature. There are pages of your Holden cars parked in front of Holden dealerships from all over the country as a tribute to the Red Lion. Hang up your ‘do not disturb’ sign, put your feet up and get stuck in another great issue of your favourite motoring mag.
