Issue #37

A$14.95

In this issue we get started with the Giant Killer LJ Torana GTR XU-1. Its current owner admired it as a young apprentice when it was brand new, so when he came across it years later, he snapped it up.

If you like land yacht luxury Fords, how about a set of father and son twins; one a 1966 Ford Galaxie 500 and the other a 1976 LTD Silver Monarch, both beautiful examples from a time when owning one of these meant you’d made it.

From the Holden shelf, we have a rare bird indeed, a 1985 HDT VK Commodore SS Group A ex-racer, that survived! It was built by HDT for privateer, Gerald Kay to race and it’s still one very impressive beast today.

Representing the Mopar brand, is a very tidy VC Valiant sedan that was purchased new by a Western Australian farmer for his wife as a Christmas present. It saw years of family service until it was reluctantly sold to the current owner who put it back on the road.

There are not too many original XY Fairmonts left around today, as quite a few were turned into GT clones, and the rest were parted out. We have a Limelight example that has survived as a daily driver right up until recently.

This issue’s Future Survivor is a 1990 HSV VN 8 Plus. When first launched, they were more expensive than the VN SS. The extra money got you exclusivity and performance, giving owners the HSV experience for a much more affordable price tag.

Close to pristine describes this issue’s International Survivor, a 1955 Oldsmobile Super 88 Holiday sports sedan, showing just 17,000 miles. It’s been in the one family since new and now sits with the lucky second owner down under. For something different, we showcase a special feature about an old Chev Heaven graveyard filled with plenty of old timers that have been patiently resting for years.

Welcome to another epic issue of your favourite motoring magazine, Survivor Car Australia, enjoy the Survivors that are guaranteed to please! Buckle up now for some laidback cruisin’ through the nostalgia that is, the cars we grew up with.
